Vowels are sounds in which there is no obstruction to the flow of air as it passes from the larynx to the lips.


2. What are short vowel sounds?

[I], [e], [æ], [˄], [ɒ], [ʊ]

3. What are examples of words with short vowel sounds?

[I] = ‘bin’, ‘tin’, ‘ring’


[e] = ‘bet’, ‘pet’, ‘pen’


[æ] = ‘bag’, ‘rag’, ‘tag’


[˄] = ‘part’, ‘dart’, ‘fart’


[ɒ] = ‘lost’, ‘boss’, horse’


[ʊ] = ‘glue’, clue’, ‘blue’
